Bat Falcon
The Bat Falcon (Falco rufigularis) is a falcon that is a resident of tropical Mexico, Central and South America, and Trinidad. As the name implies, they feed on bats, but also prey on birds and insects (mostly aerial). They nest in adopted cavities, on cliffs, or on man-made structures and defend their territory aggressively. This little falcon is intently watching prey in the distance in preparation for his attack.
The sculpture was inspired by a Floyd Scholz seminar. It is carved of Tupelo and painted with acrylics, on a maple burl base. The sculpture is 19 ½” high. It is available for purchase.
