Bald Eagle

The Bald Eagle has been the national emblem of the United States since 1782 and a spiritual symbol for native people for far longer than that. These regal birds aren’t so called because their heads looks hairless, but because their head are white. It comes from the Middle English word “balde" which means white. In fact, the striking white head and tail feathers are not developed until the bird is mature, at about 4 or 5 years old.

The only requirement for this commission piece was that the wings be spread, so she’s in a take-off position.  The fact the primaries are slightly below the secondaries shows she’s almost at the end of her upward stroke. The sculpture is 16” high, 11” long, and 16” from wingtip to wingtip.  It is not available.
